A Chinese company just sold more electric cars to the rest of the world in one month than most carmakers sell in an entire year. BYD, which stands for Build Your Dreams, exported a stunning 175,349 passenger vehicles in June alone — a new world record for the company and a sign that electric vehicles are becoming a bigger part of daily life in countries everywhere.
That number is up 95 percent compared to the same month last year. It also beat BYD's previous record, set just one month earlier in May, by almost 15,000 vehicles. In other words, the company keeps breaking its own records month after month.
Some people might see this differently. One way to look at it: BYD is selling more abroad because car sales in China have dropped, and the company needs to find buyers elsewhere. But there's another way to read the numbers: BYD is expanding its dealerships, repair shops, and factories around the world, and customers are responding. Their cars are known for offering a lot of quality at a price that's easier to afford, which has helped them stand out in markets from Europe to Southeast Asia.
This matters for the planet because electric vehicles don't burn gasoline or diesel. When more people drive electric cars instead of gas-powered ones, less pollution enters the air. That means cleaner skies and less warming of the Earth. A company that keeps selling more electric cars to more countries is helping that shift happen faster.
BYD's growth also shows that the transition to cleaner transportation isn't just happening in a few wealthy nations. It's spreading to places where people are looking for affordable, reliable options. That kind of change doesn't happen overnight, but June's record makes it clear the momentum is building.
