Niamh Okafor grew up just a ten-minute walk from the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England. Her dad used to listen to matches on the radio in their living room because tickets were too expensive for the whole family. But next season, Niamh — and thousands of other locals like her — might finally get to sit in those bright blue seats themselves.
Manchester City announced plans to offer £10 matchday tickets exclusively to adults living near the stadium. Between 100 and 500 deeply discounted tickets will be set aside for every Premier League home game, as well as some domestic cup and European matches. Concession tickets will cost £7.50, and children under 18 will pay just £5.
Residents in five Manchester city council wards surrounding the Etihad Campus qualify for the program: Ancoats & Beswick, Clayton & Openshaw, Gorton & Abbey Hey, Ardwick, and Miles Platting & Newton Heath. To apply, neighbors must provide proof of their postal address.
Danny Wilson, the club's managing director of operations, said the initiative stems from a simple belief: people who live closest to the stadium should not be priced out of experiencing it.
"Manchester City has always been rooted in its community," Wilson said. "We know matchdays bring significant social and economic opportunities to the area. But with more matches, more activities and more visitors than ever before, it is important that those who live closest to us can continue to enjoy the experience, make lasting memories, and be a part of the journey with us."
The ticket program is part of a broader effort to keep matchdays accessible. The club also announced it will freeze ticket prices for next season — the third straight year prices have not increased. City is even introducing a new lower price bracket, with some midweek Premier League tickets starting at just £25.
The changes come at a moment of transition for the club. The expanded North Stand, now renamed the Pep Guardiola Stand, opened fully for the final home game of the 2024-25 season, which saw a stadium-record crowd of 60,332 fans cheer on Guardiola's last match as manager. The Spanish coach stepped down after a decade at the helm.
New manager Enzo Maresca will make his debut in the Community Shield against Arsenal on 16 August, with the first home league game of the 2026-27 season coming against Bournemouth a week later.
For longtime locals like Niamh's family, the new pricing means matchday memories that once felt out of reach might finally become reality — not just for a parent or two, but for whole households.
