Team Scotland has announced a 25-strong swimming squad for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, uniting Olympic medallists, past champions, and a remarkable athlete competing through illness. The full roster unveiled this week includes Duncan Scott and Angharad Evans, who were pre-selected for the event, alongside three additional 2024 Olympians: Katie Shanahan, Keanna MacInnes, and Lucy Hope.
The squad represents a mix of seasoned competitors and Games first-timers that speaks to the depth of Scottish swimming talent. Katie Shanahan brings proven pedigree to the team after winning two bronze medals in the pool at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Evan Jones, another squad member, won bronze twice at the Birmingham Games. The selection also highlights the pathway from youth competition to the senior stage, with many swimmers who competed in the Youth Games now making the standard for a home competition.
What makes this squad particularly striking is the inclusion of Archie Goodburn, who was diagnosed with inoperable brain tumours in 2024 yet went on to win 100m breaststroke gold at the Scottish Swimming Championships last year. His selection underscores not just his athletic ability, but the resilience and determination that defines Team Scotland's approach to the Games.
The full squad brings together 25 swimmers whose names span from the familiar—Scott and Evans—to the emerging talents like Joshua Mitchell, Jensen Norris, and Emma Wood. Each brings their own story to the team effort, whether it's returning to competitive excellence or stepping onto a major Games stage for the first time.
Swimming and para-swimming events will take place at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre from 24 to 29 July, transforming Glasgow into a hub of aquatic competition. The venue's selection ensures that these athletes will compete on home soil, a significant advantage for morale and preparation.
Elinor Middlemiss, Team Scotland's chef de mission, reflected the optimism surrounding the squad's selection. "There is a great mix of experienced athletes and Games first-timers, showing we have an extremely talented team and real strength in the squad," she said. "It's also wonderful to see so many of our Youth Games team making the standard and having the opportunity to use that experience at a home Games."
The full roster—which includes stars like Ciara Schlosshan, Holly McGill, Stefan Krawiec, and Matthew Ward alongside the pre-selected and Olympians—represents Scotland's commitment to competitive excellence and inclusive representation. These swimmers now enter their final preparations knowing they'll represent their nation in front of home crowds in one of the most prestigious multi-sport competitions on the international calendar.
