When Lois Toulson and Maisie Bond hit the water in perfect unison at the Paris Aquatics Centre, their score of 300.06 sent Great Britain to the top of the podium at the European Aquatics Championships. The British diving pair held off Germany's 298.20 and Ukraine's 286.20 to claim gold in the women's synchronised 10m platform event. It was the first time the duo had scored that high together — a personal best crowned with a gold medal.
"We came into these championships wanting to win and knowing it was possible," said Toulson after their victory. "We'd been training really hard and looking good, I think. That was a personal best for us. To be able to do that and get a gold medal — we're really proud."
Just hours later, Britain's artistic swimmers added another gold to the tally. Isabelle Thorpe and Ranjuo Tomblin took the mixed duet title by the slimmest of margins, finishing just 0.26 points ahead of Spain with a score of 258.23. Italy came third at 255.16. The win was especially meaningful for Thorpe, an Olympic silver medallist, who had battled injury during their preparation.
"It's incredible. I'm really happy and to have done it with Ranjuo is incredible," Thorpe said. "We didn't have the most smooth sailing preparation due to injury, but it's good we have been able to come through it and be on top."
Tomblin, who had already defended his men's solo technical title earlier in the week, said sharing the moment with Thorpe made this victory even sweeter. "Today is more special because I get to do it with Izzy, so it's incredible," he said.
The championships also saw strong British results in the men's 1m springboard diving final. Jack Laugher earned silver with 418.25 points, while fellow Briton Jordan Houlden took bronze with 410.30. Both finished behind Germany's Moritz Linus Wesemann, who won with 431.45.
With two golds and multiple medals across different events, Great Britain showed its depth in European watersports at this competition.
