The Clean Tech Revolution Won't Be Stopped

On a scorching August morning in Arizona, workers unloaded the 500th Ojai electric robotaxi from a Waymo facility—despite a 102.5% tariff that nearly doubled its price tag to $78,000 per vehicle. "Tariffs or not, this is what Waymo is using," CleanTechnica noted, capturing the stubborn logic of an industry that has decided clean energy isn't optional anymore.

The same determination pulses through Italy's recycling bins, where every piece of packaging now tells citizens exactly which bin it belongs in. Thirty years ago, Italy recycled less than 10% of its waste. Today, that number exceeds 60%—and only 20% heads to landfills. Simple labeling, mandated by a 2023 European directive, closed the knowing-doing gap.

Australia's energy market tells a similar story. According to the Australian Energy Market Operator's July 2026 quarterly report, renewable generation grew 37.1% year-over-year, coal output fell 5%, and gas plummeted 30% to its lowest Q2 level since 2003. Meanwhile, wholesale electricity prices hit their lowest point since 2020. Bloomberg New Energy Finance doubts Australia can hit its 82% renewable target by 2030—but history suggests BNEF forecasts have "been consistently wrong, underplaying innovation and progress."

Electric mobility is accelerating too. In Australia, plug-in vehicles captured roughly 31% market share last month, with the Mazda 6e recently outselling the Tesla Model 3 (283 to 134). Waymo has imported over 3,200 Zeekr-based Ojai robotaxis into the US, and BYD's 2027 Seal 06 is getting a lidar upgrade and dual motor options while keeping its $16,273 price tag—because making the technology affordable matters as much as making it available.

Even data centers are rethinking their footprint. A new National Laboratory study highlights underground thermal energy storage that could slash the 40% of computing facilities' energy currently devoted to cooling. Instead of blowing cold air, these systems store cold underground in winter and deploy it during summer heat.

Colorado just added another brick to the foundation. A district court dismissed an industry lawsuit against Denver's building energy codes, ruling that cities can regulate gas appliances to cut pollution and energy bills. "Everyone deserves to breathe clean air," said Dylan Plummer of the Sierra Club.


Progress rarely travels in a straight line. It stutters, restarts, and sometimes runs into walls—tariffs, lawsuits, supply chains, skeptics. But the momentum is unmistakable. Across Australia, Italy, and the American Southwest, people are finding ways to build the clean economy they need. The future isn't waiting for permission.

Tariffs or not, this is what Waymo is using—capturing the stubborn logic of an industry that has decided clean energy isn't optional anymore.
