On July 9, 2026, Chinese electric car company NIO unveiled a new five-seat version of its flagship ES8 SUV, betting that more drivers are ready to go fully electric. The Executive Premium model starts at RMB 382,800, while the pricier Executive Signature version begins at RMB 422,800. Deliveries to customers start the very next day.
The ES8 is not a newcomer to the roads. More than 210,000 people have bought one over the past eight years, making it a trusted name in China's premium electric SUV market. The third-generation ES8 proved especially popular, reaching 120,000 deliveries in just 275 days after launch. It held the top spot in large SUV sales for six months straight and led its segment in the first half of 2026.
NIO's founder, William Li, has been outspoken about his belief that electric vehicles are reaching a turning point where their benefits outweigh the hassle of charging. The ES8 Five-Seat Version is his answer to drivers who want a spacious electric SUV but have been waiting for something truly compelling.
"The ES8 Five-Seat Version will accelerate the transition of premium large five-seat SUVs to battery electric," Li said at the launch.
What makes this version stand out? Space. Lots of it. NIO engineers designed the cabin to offer 7.05 square meters of usable interior, which the company says is the most in its class. The rear trunk holds 1,334 liters—more than twice what a typical large SUV offers. Buyers who order by July 31 also get five years of free access to NIO's self-driving feature, plus a comfort package worth RMB 2,680 that includes pillows, floor mats, and a smart fragrance diffuser.
For those already in the NIO family, existing ES8 owners get 30,000 bonus points toward future purchases, while owners of other NIO models receive 20,000 points.
With this launch, NIO is pushing further into the growing market for premium electric vehicles, offering drivers who need room for five passengers—plus up to 21 suitcases—a reason to make the switch.
