The electric car company XPENG just hit a new milestone — and it's good news for the planet. The Guangzhou-based company delivered 38,027 electric vehicles in July 2026, up 4% from the same month last year. That might sound like modest growth on its own, but here's why it matters: China's overall car market actually shrank during this period. While most other automakers struggled, XPENG kept climbing.
What's even more striking is the environmental footprint of those sales. XPENG calculated that the electric vehicles it delivered from January through July 2026 will prevent more than 3.23 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions over their lifetimes compared to regular gas-powered cars. That's roughly equal to what 53.75 million young trees would absorb in a decade. In other words, XPENG's first seven months of deliveries this year are doing the work of an enormous forest.
XPENG has now sold a total of 1,211,071 electric vehicles since it started business — crossing the 1.2 million mark for the first time. The company is also expanding rapidly beyond China. On July 16, XPENG held its brand day event in Munich, Germany, where it unveiled a new global model planned for release in 65 countries and regions this year. Earlier this month, XPENG shared its plans for the Australian market: five all-new models will launch there in the second half of 2026, with local sales and service networks growing to meet demand. The company also announced that its next-generation driver-assistance system, called NGP and powered by an in-house artificial intelligence model, will begin rolling out worldwide in 2027.
XPENG's monthly sales of 38,027 even outpaced those of rival NIO, which sold 35,934 vehicles in July. Both companies have now hit the 40,000-vehicle milestone three times, including in June 2026. The gap between XPENG's sales this year compared to last year — 204,004 vehicles so far in 2026 versus 233,906 in the same stretch of 2025 — could still close in the remaining five months of the year.
For a company that started less than a decade ago, XPENG's climb to over 1.2 million cumulative sales shows how quickly electric vehicles are going mainstream. And with global expansion accelerating and each new vehicle on the road cutting emissions for years to come, the ripple effects of one month's deliveries extend far beyond the numbers.
