Cameron Melbourne-Smith didn't let the pressure get to him. Swimming the final leg of the 4x200-meter freestyle relay at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, he held his nerve over the last 50 meters to secure bronze for Wales — and in doing so, he called it the best moment of his swimming career so far. "I'm happy to do it with these boys," Melbourne-Smith said. Wales's third-place finish gave the team its fourth swimming medal of the Games. The relay squad included Harry Milne, Jack Knight, Lewis Fraser, and Bird, who all swam in the heats on Sunday morning, giving them a share of the bronze even though they weren't in the final race. "When they asked me to step up for the team I didn't even hesitate," Fraser said. "I always swim with the team on my back." Wales narrowly held off Scotland's Duncan Scott, a home favorite, to claim the final podium spot. It was a tight finish, with Melbourne-Smith counting on his teammates' earlier work to carry him through. "These boys did all the hard work," he said. "For me, it was just about getting the job done." The team's spirit stood out as much as the medal. "We've talked a lot about how tight-knit we are," said teammate Richards. "A lot of us have come through the ranks since we were very young and grown as a team. To be able to do it together has been incredible." Looking ahead, 17-year-old Theodora Taylor continued her breakout Games by qualifying for the women's 100-meter freestyle final with the fourth fastest time. She had already won a relay bronze earlier in the week. And Lewis Fraser, the same swimmer who stepped up for the relay, finished seventh in the 100-meter butterfly final — showing the depth of Wales's swimming squad in Birmingham.
